Eco-Friendly Treats for Halloween In Canada
This Halloween I decided to do my best and find candy that is more eco-friendly. I aimed to find candy that comes in minimal packaging at the local stores like Sobeys and Shoppers Drug Mart.
This list contains store-bought, bulk store and online store candy suggestions for Canadians. I live in Prince Edward Island and these are the candies that are zero-waste. The packaging of the ones listed are either made of cardboard that can be easily composted or aluminum that can be recycled.
The candies are full-sized so they might be a bit more expensive than your regular Halloween treats but can be a real treat for the little guys. If you want to be the cool neighbour, try giving away these full-sized candies for this Halloween.
I debated on not adding bulk store candies because people do not generally trust unpackaged foods given away by a total stranger. BUT, if you are like me and you live in a neighbourhood where you all know each other and you are like family, you can offer bulk candies in an appropriately decorate jar. It’s a wonderful way to save on waste and minimize packaging.
Last Easter I put together Easter Bunny Jars and I hosted an Egg Hunt for the kids in my small neighbourhood.
I know Smarties are also an option but because they are made by Nestle, I decided not to add them to my list.
